PageRank Update 2010/04

April 5th, 2010

So the time has come again… a few days ago there was a PageRank update. Yeah, it didn’t go as well for me as I hoped. I was stupid enough to build a lot of sites on free hosts and use the domain name they gave me. I had like 7-8 sites on extra.hu almost all of them PR3-4 and at the end of March extra.hu has announced that their free-host service will end, so my sites are simply lost. I put quite much work into them, but I had to pay for my lesson. At least I’ve learned that the safest way is to get your own host and buy your own domain name, that way you can’t lose months or even years of work…

So this update didn’t go that well, but taking in consideration that I lost 8 sites just a few days before the PageRank update with a lot of backlinks, I should be happy. None of my sites lost PR, most of them remained unchanged, only the sub pages got higher ranking. So the results of my most important sites that survived:

http://szoftvertipp.info – PR:4 / Old rank: 4 (I was expecting 5)
http://lacyg.info – PR: 3 / Old rank: 3 (Expected: 4)
http://webstack.info – PR: 3 / Old rank: 0 (Expected: 4)

Probably I expected too much again, that’s why I’m dissapointed now, but I feel I should be happy, I didn’t lose any PR despite the fact that I lost s few PR3-4 links to these sites.

Sherlock Holmes – One of the best

April 2nd, 2010

Not so long ago I was a huge movie fan, but it was a long time since I sat down to watch a movie. I don’t really know why, but last summer I just simply stopped watching movies, although I always loved them, especially comedy, sci-fi and action ones. Fortunately a few weeks ago I have met somebody, who invited me over to watch some movies and everything changed. I couldn’t really pay too much attention to the movies, because I can only watch movies alone and stuff, but they reminded me of the old times when I couldn’t wait for an enjoyable release of a new movie…

Because last week I had an exam and was really nervous, I decided to watch a movie the evening before the exam and chose Sherlock Holmes. I was the best choice I could make, I loved it. People who know me personally know that I adore British people and Britain, so even if the films was a big load of junk, I would have liked it anyway, but seriously, it was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen it 3 or 4 times since last week and I think I won’t delete it for a while… I am not going to sum the story up or tell you anything about the movie, it deserves being watched, if you have a chance, don’t hesitate. Maybe you can have a peek at the trailer:

Some of you have followed me on Twitter and read my ratings on movies I’ve seen. Because I realized I can’t be left alone with my thoughts, I will get back to watching movies when I have nothing to do and will post my opinion about them and ratings here, on my blog. And Sherlock Holmes gets a big fat 9.5/10 from me :)

Online radio player in Flash

March 29th, 2010

Long time did not write anything, but been kinda busy lately, moreover I did not do anything worth mentioning. During last summer I really wanted to start learning at least the basics of Flash, but the summer passed away and I didn’t write a single line of code neither have crated my first frame. Then autumn came and I finally created a basic mp3 player without controls and stuff. It was just an empty frame that played an mp3 track. Of course, I never used it to anything and forgot about it.

Fortunately I needed to create an application for a school project that involves using multimedia over the internet. Initially I chose a pretty huge project, but because of the lack of time (+ a whole lot of laziness) I decided to extend my mp3 player and try to get a grade on that… so radio.lacyg.info was born.

It is my first Flash project and the day I uploaded it to the server I was kinda proud of myself. It reads the stations from an external XML file and has basic controls, like play/stop, next/previous station. There is a strange phenomenon though… while testing on my computer, it plays all kind of streams, but fails after uploading it to the server and trying to play some streams in the browser. This is really strange, and later I will have to look deeper into it and try to find a solution. But now I just want a grade on it and I will consider using it for playing online radios in the browser instead of Media Player or Winamp.

I have some ideas I could use it for, but it needs solving the streaming problem and some more work and because of the lack of time, it is going to be postponed till summer. But be prepared for 2 bigger projects :)

Funny Interview

WebStack is finally here

February 12th, 2010

Well, webstack.info has quite a long story. Last summer I sent a mail to two local companies in Saint George looking for a job for the summer, but they didn’t even bother to respond, so I got kinda desperate and really down, so I bought this domain to set up a portfolio page and to try my luck as a freelancer. To be honest, I didn’t really need to do it, I could just spend my summer driving and having fun, but sometimes I just get stupid and want to prove things for myself. Of course, if I fail in anything I just get down and hate myself :)

Because I can’t lose, I started searching for jobs online, at rentacoder and getafreelancer. No luck. This just made me feel a lot worse, so I decided to build a portfolio site that would increase my chances to get some projects as a freelancer and maybe later it would help getting a fix job, as I could show something I did. I had some money on PayPal from selling links on one of my blogs and translating some poems, but unfortunately I couldn’t attach my credit card to my PP account. I bought this domain for 5 years and had money to buy 3 other domains which I planned to use for smaller projects with a lot of eye-candy for my first references. WebStack.info was one of them…

Since August the domain was untouched, I had other stuff to do. I didn’t really have an idea what kind of site to put under this name, I just like the name, that’s why I bought it. This week I was bored as hell, so I started to make some website templates. Two of them became quite fine, I was even proud of myself for a moment. Another one was ok too, but too funky, I didn’t know if I could ever use it, but I just had an idea… and the result of it is WebStack.

LOL, 300+ words about a simple toplist :) Anyway, I was so happy that finally I completed what I wanted. Hope it will help me in finding a job this summer ;) Feel free to add your website.

Some quality fun

If you will not smile and be excited after watching the following video, I can assure you that you never had fun in your life :) :P

It is awesome. No showing off, no rubber burning, no driving sideways, no racing, simply pushing it to the limit. Aaaaaaaaah! Just love it!
